Transfer from Heathrow Airport to Central London

The innermost part of UK’s capital city is known as Central London. The area is not clearly defined, however its main characteristics are high land values, numerous regionally, internationally and nationally significant facilities and organisations, an increased daytime population and high density built environment. Central London includes areas like Westminster, Camden, Wandsworth, Islington, Southwark, Lambeth, Chelsea and Kensington. It represents London’s largest concentration of business and financial services, featuring a large variety of media, communications, advertising and publishing offices, associations, institutions, professional bodies and offices of trade. Furthermore, Central London is home to the most remarkable landmarks and attractions.

Some of the major attractions in Central London can be found in the City of Westminster. One of them is the world–renowned Westminster Abbey. Its official name is the Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster and it is a large church built in an impressive Gothic style. It is located in the western part of the Westminster Palace and it represents the traditional burial site and place of coronation for the British and English monarchs. The abbey was founded for the first time in 624. It was called the Abbey of St Peter. It was rebuilt from 1042 till 1052 by Edward the Confessor. The present church was constructed by Henry III in 1245. The organ inside the church was constructed in 1937 and the bells have been overhauled in 1971.

It also features a museum whose collection includes items like the coronation chair of Mary II, sculpture fragments dating from the 12th century, medieval glass panels, funeral effigies and royal effigies. Finally, Westminster Abbey is home to the Westminster Abbey Choir School and Westminster School. They offered education for the monks. Westminster abbey is opened for public admission from Monday till Saturday.
